SEVENTH FIBA WOMEN'S U19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP -- 2007

Led by two-time USA Basketball co-Developmental Coach of the Year Doug Bruno, the 2007 USA U19 World Championship Team returned from the FIBA U19 World Championship with a perfect 9-0 record and gold medal.

Dominating its competition by an average margin of 34.6 ppg., the USA broke nine team records and set six new individual highs in the USA U19 record book.
DePaul University's Bruno was assisted by Cynthia Cooper-Dyke of Prairie View A&M University (Texas) and Carol Owens from Northern Illinois University.
The USA began the tournament with a 95-25 dismantling of Ivory Coast. Led by game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds from Krystal Thomas, all 12 U.S. players scored in th e USA's opening contest.
Krystal Thomas, with 17 points and 11 rebounds, notched a double-double the following night as well as the USA recorded a 101-60 blowout of China .
Next, Jantel Lavender and Monica Wright each scored 16 points to help the USA to a 90-50 victory over Lithuania to close preliminary round play.
To open second round action, the USA jumped to a 20-point first quarter lead over South Korea and never looked back, cruising to a 113-69 win with thel help of 14 points from Melissa Lechlitner and a third double-double from Krystal Thomas, this time 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Matched against Spain, the USA needed all four quarters and 28 points from Jantel Lavender to secure a hard-fought, 74-66 win over Spain.
Next facing Slovakia, the USA recorded a 84-60 victory, highlighted by 24 points from Maya Moore.
The USA closed the second round with a 85-66 win against the Czech Republic that featured 25 points from Jantel Lavender.
Matched for a second time against Spain in the semifinal contest, the USA recorded a 69-46 victory, including 24 points from Maya Moore.
The USA faced an also-unbeaten opponent, Sweden, in the championship game, and, featuring five players in double figures, rolled to an impressive 99-57 win over Sweden to capture a perfect 9-0 record and the 2007 U19 World Championship gold medal.
The USA ranked first in 11 of 19 statistical categories, including scoring margin, scoring average (90.0 ppg.), field goal percentage (45.5), rebounding (57.4 rpg), rebounding margin (+18.7 rpg.) and blocked shots (5.8 bpg.).
In addition, two of the USA's 12 players finished among the top 10 leading scorers for the tournament.
Prior to the U19 World Championship, the USA tallied a 3-0 record in an tournament in the Canary Islands, Spain. The USA beat Australia 64-62 on July 19; Brazil 90-75 on July 20; and Spain 79-71 on July 21.
