2012 QUALIFIED TEAMS: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mali, Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the USA.
EVENT DESCRIPTION: The FIBA U17 World Championship For Women will feature 12 national teams that qualified through their FIBA zone tournaments. Players eligible for this competition must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1995.
EVENT HISTORY: 2010 marked the inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, which is scheduled to be held every two years. USA Basketball's U17 National Team captured the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship gold medal after decimating opponents by a 37.4 ppg. scoring margin and seven of the USA's 12-member team went on to capture the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship gold medal. The USA qualified for the 2012 U17 World Championship by winning the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
