Women's Final Four Teams Peppered with USA Basketball Flavor

Including University of Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma of UConn, who will guide the USA Basketball National Teams through 2012, and Stanford University head coach Tara VanDerveer, who served as head coach for the historic 1995-96 USA Basketball Women's National Team that compiled an overall 60-0 slate and captured the 1996 Olympic gold medal, the 2010 women's NCAA Final Four field features a total of 26 USA Basketball connections.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Baylor

  • While Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey has not coached a USA Basketball team, she aided five teams to four gold medals and one silver medal as a player. Most notably, Mulkey was on the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team that rolled to gold in Los Angeles. She also captured gold with the 1984 USA R. William Jones Cup Team, 1983 USA Pan American Games Team and 1981 U.S. Olympic Festival South Team, and a silver medal with the 1983 USA World Championship Team.
  • Morgan Medlock was on the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team that won the bronze medal.
  • Brooklyn Pope finished with the bronze medal as a member of the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team.
  • Shanay Washington captured gold with the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival White Team.

Connecticut

  • In addition to his current USA National Team head coach position, Geno Auriemma was head coach for the 2001 USA U19 World Championship Team (6-1 / bronze), 2000 USA U18 National Team (5-0 / gold), 1996 USA Select Team (n/a), and 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival (0-4 / fourth place). Auriemma also was on the sidelines as an assistant coach to the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team that ran the table for an 8-0 mark and the gold medal.
  • Husky assistant coach Shea Ralph was a member of the gold medal winning 2000 USA R. William Jones Cup Team and returned later that summer as a member of the 2000 USA Select Team that fell 97-31 in an exhibition game to the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team.
  • Heather Buck was a member of the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team that earned the bronze medal.
  • A member of the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team, Tina Charles has helped three teams capture gold, including the USA Women's National Team in the 2009 Ekaterinburg Invitational, 2009 USA World University Games Team and 2006 USA U18 National Team, while also earning bronze with the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team.
  • Caroline Doty won gold with the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival White team.
  • Kelly Faris, along with Stanford's Nneka Ogwumike, helped the 2009 USA U19 World Championship and 2008 USA U18 National teams capture gold medals and was on the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Blue Team that won silver.
  • Tiffany Hayes aided the 2009 USA World University Games Team and 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Team to gold medals.
  • A member of the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team, Maya Moore teamed up with Stanford's Kayla Pedersen to win three gold medals in three tries as a member of USA teams, including the 2009 USA World University Games, 2007 USA U19 World Championship and 2006 USA U18 National teams.

Oklahoma

  • Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale served as an assistant coach to Geno Auriemma and the 2001 USA U19 World Championship Team that finished with a 6-1 slate and the bronze medal.
  • Danielle Robinson teamed up with UConn's Tina Charles, Tiffany Hayes and Maya Moore to win gold at the 2009 World University Games.
  • Abi Olajuwon and Amanda Thompson helped their 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Blue Team capture the gold medal.

Stanford

  • In addition to her year-long stint as the head coach of the 1995-96 USA Basketball Women's National Team, Tara VanDerveer was head coach for the 1994 USA Goodwill Games Team (4-0 / gold), 1994 USA World Championship Team (7-1 / bronze), 1993 World Championship Qualifying Team (6-1 / gold), 1991 USA World University Games Team (8-0 / gold), 1990 USA Select Team (2-3 / n/2) and 1986 U.S. Olympic Festival East Team (1-3 / fourth place).
  • USA National Team hopeful Jayne Appel has captured gold at the 2007 Pan American Games and 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, while her 2005 USA Youth Development Festival White Team earned a silver medal.
  • Sarah Boothe helped the 2008 USA U18 National Team earn gold and was on the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team that earned the bronze medal.
  • Michelle Harrison was a member of the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team that won the bronze medal.
  • J.J. Hones aided the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Blue Team to a gold medal.
  • Nneka Ogwumike, along with Connecticut's Kelly Faris, helped the 2009 USA U19 World Championship and 2008 USA U18 National teams capture gold medals and was on the 2007 USA Youth Development Festival Red Team that won bronze.
  • Like UConn's Maya Moore, Kayla Pederson has won three gold medals in three tries as a member of USA teams, including the 2009 USA World University Games, 2007 USA U19 World Championship and 2006 USA U18 National teams.
  • Jeanette Pohlen was a member of the 2009 USA World University Games Team that won gold.
  • Joslyn Tinkle helped the 2008 USA U18 National Team capture the gold medal.
