2011 USA Basketball Women's National Teams -- Eligibility Information

USA Basketball competition committees are responsible for selecting athletes to be invited to team trials, the actual selection of each 12-member team and ongoing performance evaluations of team members. While participation on a USA Basketball team is by invitation only, with the exception of the 2011 USA U16 National Team, all interested players are encouraged to download the USA Basketball Player Consideration Form and return the form to USA Basketball to insure consideration. Each 2011 event is summarized below to better understand the opportunities for athletes this summer.

The USA Basketball Player Consideration Form was due March 11, 2011, and is no longer available.

2011 FIBA U19 World Championship

The 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship will be held July 20-31 in several cities in Chile.   Trials to select 15-16 finalists will be held May 22-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The 12-member team will be selected at a camp at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex on June 1-5.  The final team training camp will begin on July 10 and athletes will return home following the conclusion of the tournament.  Athletes will receive an invitation to attend the trials progressively and no later than following the USA Junior National Team Committee meeting at the NCAA Final Four in early April.  Training camp will include a variety of practices, scrimmages and friendly games as follows:

  • Players eligible for the 2011 USA U19 World Championshnip Team team must be U.S. citizens and born on or after January 1, 1992.

 

2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship

The 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship will be held June 14-18 in a city to be determined in Mexico.  This event serves as the qualifying tournament for next year’s FIBA U17 World Championship.  Trials to select the 12-member team will be held May 26-30 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Athletes will receive invitations to attend the Trials during March of 2011. It will also be possible for athletes not receiving an invitation to participate in the Trials by submitting an application.  Attendance will be limited to 200 athletes, determined by the USA Developmental National Team Committee.  Training camp will include a variety of practices, scrimmages and friendly games as follows:

  • Players eligible for the 2011 U16 National Team must be U.S. citizens and born on or after January 1, 1995.

 

2011 World University Games

The 2011 World University Games will be held August 11-20 in Shenzhen, China.  Participating collegiate-aged teams are from around the world.  Trials to select the 12-member team and alternates will be held May 22-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Training camp will begin on July 30 and athletes will return home following the conclusion of the tournament.  Athletes will receive an invitation to attend the trials following the USA Junior National Team Committee meeting at the NCAA Final Four in early April.  Players eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens, born between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1993, who are currently enrolled as a full-time collegiate student with remaining eligibility for the 2011-12 school year.  Training camp will include a variety of practices, scrimmages and friendly games as follows:

  • Players eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens who are currently freshmen, sophomores or juniors in college.
