USA Basketball Hires Travis Johnson As 3x3 Program Director

Jan. 25, 2012 • Colorado Springs, Colo.

USA Basketball today announced the hiring of Travis Johnson as its 3x3 Program Director, effective Feb. 1, 2012. Johnson comes to USA Basketball with 10 years of experience as an events coordinator at the NBA.

“We are very pleased to welcome Travis to the USA Basketball staff,” said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball Executive Director/CEO. “Three-on-three basketball at the international level is growing quickly, and USA Basketball is committed to working with FIBA and domestic operators to grow the sport, both domestically and internationally. With his experience of being involved with many grassroots events, Travis is a great fit for this position.”

As the 3x3 Program Director, Johnson will oversee all facets of USA Basketball’s newly created men’s and women’s 3x3 programs, including 3x3 national teams and working with FIBA and U.S. 3x3 operators to further develop and grow the sport.

“I’m looking forward to working with such a solid, professional and dedicated group at USA Basketball,” Johnson said. “I’m even more excited about having a role in developing a 3x3 basketball platform for USA Basketball, with the hope that it will have the chance to become an Olympic sport.”

Johnson has worked for the NBA in the events department since 2002. Hired as an Event Coordinator/NBA Nation Tour Manager, he was promoted to Senior Event Coordinator in 2007. Johnson has worked on numerous NBA events including NBA Jam Session, Basketball Without Borders, NBA 3x3 programs and the NBA's domestic basketball grassroots touring program.
