In recognition of outstanding performances at the men’s and women’s FIBA Americas U16 Championships this past summer, USA Basketball today announced Jill Rankin Schneider (Monterey H.S., Texas), head coach of the USA U16 women’s team, and Don Showalter (Mid-Prairie H.S., Iowa), head mentor for the USA U16 men’s team, as co-recipients of the 2011 USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year award.

Rankin Schneider and Showalter each led USA teams to undefeated performances in 2011, qualifying the USA for the men’s and women’s 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships. The U16 girls captured a 5-0 record and the FIBA Americas U16 Championship title with a 73-40 win over Brazil on June 18 in Merida, Mexico, while Showalter and the U16 boys claimed gold with a 104-64 victory over Argentina on June 25 in Cancun, Mexico.
