USA BASKETBALL 3X3 U18 NATIONAL TOURNAMENT: USA Basketball will again host a national tournament for 3x3 U18 athletes with the 2013 USA 3x3 U18 World Championship Team athletes being selected from participating teams. The 2013 USA Basketball U18 3x3 National Tournament will be held Aug. 9-11 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: The third annual FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship, which was billed as the 2011 FIBA 3x3 Youth World Championship in its inaugural year, is expected to feature 32 men's teams and 24 women's teams, and the top teams will qualify for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Athletes must be 18-years-old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 1995) in order to compete. In addition to the 24-team men's tournament, included in the 3x3 U18 World Championship program for the weekend will be skills contests and a mixed-team tournament with two males and two females competing on one team for their country. In 2012 the 3x3 U18 skills competitions included a 3-point shootout (women only), a dunk contest (men only) and a “2 Ball” contest (mixed) in which each person from a team of two athletes shot from five different positions on the court in a 60-second span.

EVENT HISTORY: 2013 marks the third edition for the annual event. Last summer the USA, comprised of Larry Austin, Brett Brady, DeMonte Flannigan and Rondaé Hollis-Jefferson, posted an 8-2 record and earned the silver medal. At the inaugural event in 2011, New Zealand captured the gold medal, Bulgaria finished with silver and Italy took the bronze medal. The '11 USA boys team, featuring Shaqquan Aaron, Hollis-Jefferson, Malik Price-Martin and Jordan Swopshire, finished with a 7-5 slate and in eighth place.
