L.J. Goolsby
2013-14 USA Men's Developmental National Team Assistant Coach
L.J. Goolsby, who served as a court coach at the 2012 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team training camp and who coaches KC Run GMC (Kan.) was officially named as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 USA Basketball Men's Developmental National Team on Feb. 5, 2013.
While this summer marks Goolsby’s first USA Basketball team coaching assignment, he worked with Showalter as a court coach at the 2012 USA Developmental National Team mini-camp, held Oct. 6-7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Goolsby currently lists a pair of USA Basketball gold medalists on his KC Run GMC roster in Dominque Collier and Conner Frankamp. Collier and Frankamp were members of the 2011 USA U16 National Team that captured the gold medal with a perfect 5-0 slate at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, while Frankamp returned to help lead the 2012 USA U17 World Championship Team to gold with an unblemished 8-0 mark.
Goolsby has served as program director and head coach for KC Run GMC (formerly Pump N Run Basketball Club) for the past 10 years (2003 to present). During that time, Goolsby’s teams have won multiple tournament titles, including the 2005 and 2011 adidas 16U Super 64 championships.
In addition to Collier and Frankamp, Goolsby coached USA Basketball alums Marcus Denmon and Travis Releford, who competed on the 2011 USA World University Games Team and the 2008 USA U18 National Team, respectively.
No less than 66 of Goolsby’s players have gone on to play for NCAA Division I programs, including Releford, who is currently a senior at the University of Kansas, while nearly every athlete he has coached has advanced to play basketball in college.
A native of Dodge City, Kan., Goolsby was a Kansas All-State selection as one of the top five players in the state among all classifications and a 1993 Converse High School All-American. He played collegiately at Ole Miss (1994-95 to 1995-96) and Wichita State (1996-97) before his career was cut short due to knee injuries.
Goolsby is currently a Senior Biotech Representative in the Bone Health division of Amgen a biopharmaceutical company based in Thousand Oaks, CA. He resides in Olathe, Kan. with his wife Jana and his two daughters Kyla and Alea.
